Friday Prayers:
Friday prayers program is held between 1:00-1:45 PM. This is a year-round schedule. The second Adhan (call to prayers) is done at 1:15 with Khutba (sermon) beginning promptly after. Khutba is done in English and Arabic. The Friday prayers begin promptly at 1:40 PM. The current format for Khutba was determined about 11 years ago to accommodate maximum number of people. It was also decided that the main language of the Khutba will always be English, which would facilitate interaction not only with our own language-diverse community but also with non-Muslim visitors. Visitors from various community in Shenandoah Valley are welcome to attend Friday program between 1:00-2:00. No prior appointment is necessary. Please read the dress code in visitor section of this site before visiting the mosque.
Islamic School For Children:
There are three different type of learning opportunities available for children of various ages.

Daily Quran Instruction:

This school is held on Monday-Friday. The duration of classes is from 5:15-6:15 during summer . Basics of Quranic text are taught based on the assumption that students do not speak Arabic at home. These classes are open to younger children who are at the very early stages of development in public school system.

Saturday School:

This school has the largest enrollment and is held from 11:20-1:30. Ends with Zuhr prayers. There are several different classes offered on Saturdays depending on children's age and knowledge base. Several teachers donate their time for school. Topics of instruction include:

  1. Learning basic Arabic, which facilitates reading and recitation of Holy Quran.
  2. Memorization of Surahs.
  3. Training in basics of Islamic Studies and history.

Sunday School:

Sunday classes are offered for middle and high school-age children. (We also have some college students currently attending Sunday school). The emphasis in Sunday school is on development of good character and excellent citizenship skills. The two-hour long Sunday school periods are divided in the following way:

Period 1:    How to be successful as Muslim American in the 21st century.

Period 2:     Exercise/Sports break (Basketball or football depending on the season

Period 3:     Quranic Education: There are two sections in this session. One section is devoted to learning Quranic text. Those students who have already finished learning the Quranic text, read the English translation of the Quran.

Each school has a coordinator who is responsible for running the school smoothly. There is executive committee which oversees the Saturday school operations. One member of the IASV board serves as a liaison to the entire school system.

Please note that Saturday and Sunday schools are closed for the summer but daily school is open between 5:15-6:15 PM.
